Boone Children’s Gallery
LACMA’s Boone Children’s Gallery is a space wherein families can explore artistic practices with inspiration from adjoining galleries. The location of the space encourages visitors to move through art galleries before encountering Boone Children’s Gallery, thus providing inspiration and context for the hands-on work.
The main design challenge of the space was to maintain the elegance and some design features of adjoining galleries while allowing for a space that can handle strollers, large bags, and possibly rowdy kids. Additionally, the education department needed a space flexible enough to handle the possibility of varied activities over the life of the gallery. Images below show both as-built and planning renders.
